Discovery Mobile Habitat

When the rover hits the atmosphere it de-accelerates from about 7.3 km/s to 0.4 km/s (16330 mph to 900 mph) over three minutes using the heat shield and a supersonic rated drogue chute. As it decends further the parachutes open to slow it down, soon after the heat shield is released. The rover is then lowered to the surface and placed with high accuracy using a sky crane.

The mobile habitat can support 6 crew members for up to six months.
